Behind the Maserati GranTurismo Technology

The Maserati GranTurismo satisfies any driving desires achieving a smooth ride as well as noise control in the interior and it is designed to reduce fuel consumption even at higher speeds. By driving a Maserati GranTurismo, the driver is behind the wheel of a car that meets the most severe anti-pollution laws without compromising performance.

The GranTurismo automatic transmission is located in the front, in line with the engine. The auto-adaptive software fitted in the Maserati GranTurismo transmission allows to automatically adjust gear changing to adapt to the different driving styles and road conditions. There are four operating modes: normal, sport, ICE and manual. When driving normally with steady acceleration, the gear changes occur at relatively low revs to achieve the most comfortable drive possible. The Sport mode is selected via the sport button to enhance gear shifts 40% faster than in the normal modeallowing drivers to fully appreciate the exhilarating performance of the GranTurismo. In the sport mode the way the Maserati Stability Control operates as well as the skyhook suspension are changed. The ICE mode is intended to be used when the tire grip is poor and helps providing traction even in the most slippery conditions. The manual mode allows achieving the maximum of the driving pleasure as well as car performance: the gears are directly selected by the driver sequentially, either via the gear shift lever of the paddles on the steering column.

The load-bearing body boasts a mix of materials and technologies that deliver weight optimization and strength. The GranTurismo’s extremely rigid body and its sophisticated suspension system enhance the car’s dynamic handling, reduce vibration and consequently improve comfort on board. The car weight distribution makes the Maserati GranTurismo enjoyable to drive, responsive to commands and enhance its safety. Maserati GranTurismo chassis features a front and rear wishbone suspension with forged aluminum arms and hubs to reduce weight. The suspension benefits from the Anti-dive and the Anti-squat technologies whether the skyhook system is designed to provide automatic and constant control of the damping. Skyhook is another system that contributes in providing the highest level of comfort on board without penalizing performance and sporty handling. The GranTurismo features Brembo braking system. The calipers have four pistons of different diameters with ceramic isolating linings, whether the 4-channel ABS features an electronically controlled braking distribution that it is integrated in the Maserati Stability Program. maserati granturismoThe Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic combines performance, uncompromising driving pleasure and superb elegance and beauty. The GranTurismo S is powered by a 8-cylinder V90° engine that develops 433 hp at 7,000 rpm producing a maximum torque of 361 lb-ft at 4,750 rpm. The six speed automatic transmission delivers driving comfort and together with the increased torque brings the car true GT spirit.

The new Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic boasts two new pieces of hardware: a 433 bhp 4.7 liter engine for exceptional performance and a six speed automatic transmission for the maximum in driving comfort. The effects of the self-adapting automatic transmission can be experienced particularly at low to medium revs, but it grants immediate power delivery higher up the rev range, with a top 7,200 rpm redline, a rate that no other automatic transmission in the class can equalize. The MC-Shift for the gearbox is the biggest innovation on the Maserati GranTurismo S sequential robotic gearbox. Its management software along with hardware components deliver super-fast gear change times.

The Maserati GranTurismo S feature four model: Auto Normal (for comfortable and smooth drving), Auto Sport (for those enjoying a sportier ride), Auto ICE (for low grip conditions) and Manual. By pressing the “Sport” button” on the dash, the driver opens the valves allowing the exhaust to escape more quickly while the lower back-pressure lets the engine reaching its 433 bhp peak power output. If the Manual mode is selected, the driver will change the gears via the shift paddles located in the steering column.
